Insurance premiums can cover treatment for hemorrhoid patients. However, if they are insured then who pays for it? Payment for the procedure done is sometimes rejected by the insurance company. They ask you to see a lot of doctors and consultants.

Let us discuss your options on available treatment. Hemorrhoid price tags are as follows:

1. Rubber band ligation is used to treat internal bulging hemorrhoids. This procedure is a bit uncomfortable because a rubber band is tied around the base of the hemorrhoid cutting off its blood supply. After a few days, the band and the hemorrhoid falls off. The rubber band ligation — otherwise called as “banding” — the price usually ranges from $500 to $1,500, depending on how many bands your hemorrhoids doctor use. Some practitioners advised using 3 bands to be more effective.

2. Infrared coagulation can also be used for some types of hemorrhoids. With the use of infrared radiation, the hemorrhoids shrink eventually falling off. The treatment can be anywhere from $400 to $2,000 because it still includes 2 (4) hour treatments.

3. For internal or external hemorrhoids, surgery is considered the most complete way of removal and can require hospitalization. The patient is placed under general anesthesia, then the doctor takes out or staples off the bleeding or protruding tissue. The most expensive method is called hemorrhoidectomy. Price ranges from $9,000 - $12,000.

Have an extra $200 for doctor’s consultation fee. However, with ligation and IRC procedure, the hemorrhoid can return thus requiring more treatment. Thus, you either end up paying for another session of ligation or IRC or getting a hemorrhoidectomy instead.

On the lighter side, for mild cases of hemorrhoids, reasonably priced hemorrhoid treatment are available at home. Treatments like eating more fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, drinking more water and sitting in sitz baths for 20 minutes at a time are usually suggested.

Good hygiene and proper diet is all you need to prevent the symptoms to hemorrhoids. Even the most agonizing hemorrhoids stop hurting after a few weeks even when you don’t do anything. Consult your doctor if you can’t stand it and discuss options for treatment.
