If you increase your fluid and fiber intake, you can help prevent hemorrhoids. Eating more fiber, and drinking more water will keep your stools softer, making them easier to pass. If you don’t have to strain as much to have a bowel movement, you decrease your risk of developing hemorrhoids, and can relieve the symptoms of ones you may currently have. Just remember to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables, and add a healthy dose of whole grains to your diet. You may ask your doctor to give you a bulk stool softener, or fiber supplement to help you out.

Sometimes, in sever cases, hemorrhoids are treated with surgery. Some surgeries remove the hemorrhoid by laser. The surgeon will use a high powered laser to vaporize the hemorrhoid, resulting in less pain and discomfort, and shorter recovery time. In a traditional hemorrhoid removal surgery, the surgeon removes the hemorrhoid by cutting it off, and then suturing the incision closed. This procedure can take longer to heal, and may cause more discomfort than the laser procedure, because of the possibility of a suture break at the next bowel movement.

Have your doctor discuss your options, and keep him informed on any changes in your hemorrhoids. If you can change your diet, then you are on the path to better health.
